There are many causes of abnormal discharge from the eyes – almost all problems in cats opthamological makes eyes water, and without a physical exam, it is impossible to be specific. Let's look at some of the common causes of watery eyes in cats.
Sudden onset or a temporal clear discharge from the eyes can be caused by injury (although this is unlikely if the discharge is from both eyes), allergic reaction or respiratory tract infection – just like when humans get watery eyes when suffering from a cold. If your cat has a respiratory infection, is likely to also develop a runny nose. Cats in a clear watery discharge from the eye is the only symptom may be treated with a drop of twice daily saline eyes (specifically for cats) to help clear the eyes and tear ducts. Sclerosis only occurs in cats in old age, so any cloudiness in the young cats usually the result of a cataract. However, a cataract can only be confirmed by a full veterinary examination, and your veterinarian will design a treatment plan not only to cure cataracts, but will deal the underlying cause.
A cataract describe any opacity in the normally clear lens of the eye, and prevents light from reaching the retina at the back of the eye, which forced to blindness. Inherited disorders are the most common cause of cataracts may be present at birth or develop when the animal is very young.
