"Always buy diamonds to a diamond dealer in good standing!"
What does this mean? How do I know if the seller is trustworthy or not?
Buying a diamond can be a scary undertaking these days. There is an abundance of information available to consumers, but not all of it is correct. I hope we can clarify some myths and give some guidance.
In addition to the basic teachings about diamonds and the 4 C's, guides diamond buying is also often advise consumers to be purchased in ethical and honest traders of good reputation?
Our advice is to ask if the diamond is certified and lab to see which issued the certificate or report. The quality of certification, or lack thereof, goes a long way to tell whether you are dealing with someone reliable and professional.
A diamond certificate or diamond grading report is only as good as the laboratory which issued it.
The certificate must be from an accredited laboratory independent and recognized.
Diamond certificates from respectable laboratories, ie, GIA, HRD, AGS and DCLA, are totally necessary if you want to compare diamonds intelligently.
We suggest that before buying an item costly as a loose diamond you should do some research first.
Internationally recognized diamond grading labs such as AGS, DCLA, GIA grade diamond and human resource development with the highest standards. All of these diamond grading laboratories utilize strict procedures, have the most advanced equipment, and affiliations which meet the stringent requirements for the recognition of international trade organizations.
That depends on you, the consumer, to verify the credentials of a diamond grading laboratory and the diamond dealer.
If you say that certification is unnecessary, or the diamond certificate will cost extra we suggest you shop elsewhere.
Assessments or evaluations are not the same as a diamond certificate or report of assessment.
A diamond certificate documents the complete quality and description of the diamonds, which includes information on shape, carat weight, clarity, fluorescence, color grade, measurements, proportions and finish his degree, but never mentioned the value of diamonds.
Be even more cautious distributors of websites that issue their own in house diamond certificates' or 'manufacturer's grading reports' as separate licenses, simply are not and are not a recognized laboratory.
For a diamond certificate to be reliable and useful, it must have been issued by an accredited laboratory independent, which has not had any financial interest in the stone to avoid any conflict of interest. If you've never heard of the institution offering a grading report, do not hesitate to ask about their credentials and that of people who graded the diamond. Laboratories diamond grading the degree of IDC international standards on Diamond Council, it does not just use the opinion and experience of a person. They must grade the diamond and have the opinion and consensus of three qualified diamond qualifiers before qualifying applies to any diamond.
Do not judge a certificate by its cover and title alone. Just because someone calls themselves a laboratory or opens a business to do diamond certificates and qualifications, having completed a gemology course, that does not mean they have the necessary technical equipment, skills, knowledge and experience.
These small local labs often claim to be independent, recognized, and the state of the art equipment but what about the qualifications of directors, and extent of the person who graded the diamond? Do you test for all treatments and the improvements? Do they guarantee that the diamond is natural? It was diamond laser inscribed using a cold laser? Do they grade diamonds to set international rules and standards?
That's one thing to produce a certificate but it is very important for the certificate or grading report is accurate and is technically correct.
As a consumer, the diamond certificate or grading report is the security guard when buying a diamond. Diamond Certificates are invaluable documents that show in detail a diamond's credentials, so why not check the credentials of the laboratory, which graded the diamond and the retailer or diamond dealer as well?
