Green Diamond
A natural diamond coming into contact with a radioactive source at some point during its lifetime causes some diamonds to develop green coloration. The time required can be up to a million years or more. Green diamonds of this nature are very unique.
The most common form of diamonds comes from alpha particle irradiation is in compounds of uranium or percolation of groundwater. green spots on the surface of the diamonds or a thin green film may develop on the skin of the diamond after long exposure to these particles. Many times, the green color is removed during the process of cutting or carving.
Bombardment by beta and gamma rays the color of the diamond to a greater depth and in some rare cases turn entirely green stone. heating to a temperature just below 600 degrees Celsius can sometimes also cause a diamond to develop a green ting. Higher temperatures can turn the stone a yellow or brown less desirable.
Green Diamond
The lattice structure of diamond crystal is changed by particle bombardment radioactive enough to disrupt the balance of the crystal structure and produce a green color. Addition heating network distort further and add or create another color change. Both radiation and heating permanently distort the structure of diamonds.
Some lightly colored diamonds are irradiated to make your color more intense. This means that low fields of radiation are beamed into the cut and polished stone, darkening of the exterior of the stone all the way around. The process is permanent and professionally accepted in the diamond industry.
Probably the biggest diamond is irradiated Deepdene, a 104.88 carat gold yellow cushion-shaped stone. The diamond was sold in Switzerland in 1997 for $ 715,320.
Dresden Diamond
The highest price paid for carat for a colored diamond was 0.95 carats $ 926,315 fancy purplish red stone sold at Christie's Auction House in 1987. a vivid bright green at 90 carats was sold for $ 670.00 per carat in 2000.
Dresden Diamond
The largest natural green diamond in the world is the Dresden Green. It is classified as an "apple green" color and weighs 40.70 carats. The Gemological Institute of America examined the stone in 1988. The Dresden Green Diamond was proved not only of extraordinary quality, but also a rare type IIa diamond and is considered the largest and finest natural green diamond ever found. The Book Dresden Green gets its name from the capital of Saxony, where he has been on display for over 200 years. The first known reference to its existence occurs in children Post a new sheet of London of 1700.
