Throughout the history of mankind, diamonds have passed through the power, prestige, courage, devotion, invincibility, love and lust. But in reality, Diamonds are just rocks gem mineral composed of simple carbon crystals that have formed within the earth for thousands and millions of years.
Then, What about this gem that makes you above rubies, emeralds, sapphires and other gemstones in the world?
Diamonds used to be uncommon. It was only thanks to technology and the recent discovery of diamond mines in Africa has to be marketed worldwide as a commercial item. But There was a time when a diamond that was mined and processed was reserved only for the king. Saint Louis IX of France, had even made a sumptuary law that did so.
Today, however, since the discovery of diamond mines in Africa, diamonds are not so rare, but still coveted and sold around the world for its beauty and enforced.
During the 1800s, diamond diggers found large deposits of diamonds in southern and central Africa. One particular area in the south Africa was Kimberly, and because of the huge deposits of diamonds are found here, these mines became to be known as kimberlites.
This sudden explosion in the supply of diamonds flooded the market when thousands of prospects reached kimberlite mine. Prices plummet diamond made from $ 500 ten cents a carat.
The diamond market came to a sudden turn when a young man named Cecil Rhodes entered the scene. Rhodes, who later would help build the British colonies in Africa, saw an opportunity and formed the De Beers Mining Company to meet diamond miners and prospectors to control supply.
With this cartel of diamond producers, Rhodes was able to control and dictate the market, preventing too diamonds entering the market and reduced prices.
By manipulating the supply and demand for diamonds, De Beers cartel became the most successful in the century 20. Today, De Beers Corporation, owns and controls 90 percent of the global supply of cut or uncut diamonds.
Due to the success of De Beers control of industry, diamonds have prospered and become precious and its value are preserved. And even today, reputation and mystique of diamonds are known worldwide.
It is called the king of gems, and her universal appeal makes it expensive and coveted. What woman does not want to own diamond jewelry? What man has been loved even more because of a diamond engagement ring or a pair of diamond earrings given to a ladylove as a gift?
Technology modern and the discovery could have made the diamond more accessible and less weird, but that has not diminished his standing or mankind's fascination with her.
History has dictated events that have made the diamond gemstone as it is known today and we can only follow the examples of better people before us and fall in love with his brilliance and beauty.
