Where can I find information about Wedgewood jewelry?
I have a round Wedgewood blue brooch and am trying to find some information about it.
You've got yourself a great piece! Is it a standard pin or a cameo? Anyway, if this was a finding or transmitted of a family member have a relic in his hands there! Although I am sure that several people suggest that I would choose not to start looking online. Most what you will find is limited information about your piece and a lot of information about people who sell pieces of Wedgewood. Can be very discouraging. Librarian Trust me, I've had my share of hours lost trying to find information on costume jewelry pieces that I have obtained. My best resource now (2nd to My favorite Susan at the public library) is a large chain bookstore in the collectibles section. There are plenty of great books on jewelry including the pricing guide for reading the Kovel (a large). Grab some books, a coffee, and plop yourself in the cafe with a notebook to record all information it finds. Be sure to review details of features (such as face painting your piece) for which you can date the piece. Please find the details too particular piece you have and you're not too pressed for time, you have some options. First, because it is in the bookstore and go to the magazine section and note some of the "letter to the editors' addresses some of the antique and collectible magazines. When you get home take some digital photos of the piece (front and back) and send them information about where you acquired the piece and what information is known. Most reputable journals respond (though not always in the magazine) for investigation. Secondly: If you have an antiques dealer in your town that specializes in jewelry, you can take them, and between their years of knowledge and the library staff should be able to help. Finally: If you are to have fun, Go online to find out when Antiques Roadshow in your area and consider them. If I understand correctly, are generally throughout the country during the summer. Definitely you will find a wealth of information also coming to see other great finds.
