I have discovered that ink jet printing is done cost effectively, saving time and a lot of fun for a small photography business, I've had 12 months to recover my investment. I had been fulfilling all my orders professionally printed using an on-line developer years. They were producing such good results that had fallen from shipping orders to customers. As revealed growth and I got into more scenarios distinctive lighting, the color began unpredictable. That forced me to re-evaluate the way it was printing.
Technology Assessment
I found the Epson 3800 was a good price, good quality and low cost / print. I had been watching the printer technology and reading tests professional photographers for years, but until now I did not feel the technology meets the quality level at a yield of less than 2 years of the investment. The under $ 1000 units are not archival quality and / or too costly to operate. These units have low-volume cartridges that doubled the cost per print and some printers do not offer individual color cartridges. Results
Printing only twice a month, had concerns about frequent color calibration and wasted time and material configuration printer before each print job. Even with my erratic use, the printer stays calibrated and not clog the jets, so you can start a print job without a test page. I found that the cost of printer operation offering a 35% to 64% savings on online developer. I recorded the percentage ink level for each cartridge and paper square feet that was the impression after each print job. An added benefit is seeing the results on the fly and if necessary adjust the image (eg, missing a place in a retouch), you can do on the fly.
Abstract
Not all print jobs in the ink jet printer. It is excellent for testing and maintenance my portfolio up to date. When it comes to impressions of the wedding and the price premium jobs, still using the high-end developer, which prints in the traditional Kodak E-surface with a glossy finish. Thus, 80% of my printing is now getting on the Epson 3800 with archival quality Epson K3 ink jet technology
