A diamond is a transparent stone made of carbon, one of the most common elements on earth. The formation of diamonds began very early in Earth history, when the center of the planet was subjected to incredible extremes of temperature and pressure.
Diamonds are definitely one of the most valuable and fascinating stones precious and considered by all people across the world as a unique gift of nature to mankind. Interestingly evolved diamonds – millions of years ago in the pockets of carbon dioxide that exists far below the Earth's crust. Tremendous heat and pressure combined to make the carbon atoms to crystallize the diamond formation and intermittent volcanic eruptions brought the diamonds to the surface.
The diamonds originate from two types of deposits – deposits primary diamondiferous pipes consist of a volcanic rock called kimberlite. From the depths of the earth, these deposits were brought to the surface as as molten rock called magma. Secondary deposits, also known as alluvial, formed as a result of the erosion of primary deposits materials. Is said to contain diamonds that have traveled far from its original source.
The diamonds, no matter what kind of deposits that comes, mining techniques are required special. Primary deposits, which include diamonds in kimberlite pipes, require surface or underground mining operations. Secondary deposits require diamond mining alluvial diamonds discovering the seabed sites, coastal and marine /. The diamonds are created when carbon is subjected to enormous pressure and temperature deep within the earth, a distance of 250 miles or even higher.
It is common knowledge that, regardless of the form in which diamonds are extracted for the construction of maintaining and operating mine a huge investment and technical skills are necessary. When it comes to open-pit mines and ground, grinding is performed to discover diamonds. The excavation of sand, it is necessary to find diamonds in mining on the coast. Undersea mining involves drilling into the seabed to recover diamond-bearing gravels. Riverbed mining involves some basic equipment such as sieves and pans.
The natural diamond formation takes place under extraordinary conditions, like exposure of carbon-containing materials at high pressure combined with temperature huge approximately 1650-2370 ° F (900-1300 ° C). Interestingly, these conditions mosy unlikely to be met in only two places on Earth – in the guise of lithosphere and the possible meteorite site.
The conditions for the formation of diamonds in the lithospheric mantle occur at considerable depth under temperature and pressure as described above. Very small diamonds, known as microdiamonds or nanodiamonds, have been found in impact craters of a meteorite in the discharge zones of high pressure and temperature for the formation of diamonds occur. Studies of carbon isotope ratios shows carbon found in diamonds comes from both inorganic and organic sources.
Although the world diamond production has tripled since 1980, Diamonds are still a scarce resource. Geologists are using extensive methods in diamond exploration and satellite surveys, reconnaissance sampling and drilling on the floor. Today, 75-80% of the world's natural diamonds are used for industrial purposes and only 20 to 25% for gemstones. These are the chemical and physical properties of this mineral that give superior cutting ability for industrial use.
Some of the diamonds today producing countries are Botswana, Canada, Namibia, Russia, South Africa, Australia, and Tanzania.
