First, this article is likely to strike some the wrong way, but for others, this article will be exactly what you need to know and act as a catalyst for change.
Solitaire is one of the deadliest in productivity around. I worked full time doing technical support and in the middle waiting for calls to come I'm ashamed to say that probably lost at least 3 hours per day or more in this game. Multiple that by 5 days per week and about 50 weeks per year, which is about 750 hours per year alone. Ouch!
I now coach people who are started with electronic commerce and the complaint seems to be always not have enough time. Although not make a big point of it, I often wonder if they watch too much TV or play a few rounds of solitaire before starting their homework "or tasks list of our previous training session. I suspect there are a lot of playing solitaire and probably only watch so much television. Probably very few people can multitask and do both. I know I did … X-Files to see in my computer playing solitaire was my vice.
I reached a state of conscious awareness that was literally losing my life. I made a conscious decision not to play again and have not since that day. But like any "bad habit" if you replace that with more time, you will return by conditioning. So here's what I propose: another game!
Introduces the concept of real life monopoly. The risks are greater, the rewards are real and the intensity is significant in comparison to any otherwise. I am making a comparison between the board game Monopoly and the concept of building their own real estate empire. This need not be in the form of real estate as an investor or anything so dramatic. This can be as simple as claiming your piece of Internet real estate by creating a website, driving traffic to that website and make sales or make money from that website.
Internet business can be learned by anyone. I've seen websites doing 12 years boys more sales than many of my students. The Internet is a place where you can learn all the concepts that you need and a place where you can get detailed instructions on how to play the "game".
When I quit playing solitaire, I decided instead to devote my time to the better could benefit from the Internet. I started with "Baltic Avenue" ideas such as selling some misc. junk on eBay for a few hundred dollars and ultimately graduating with a $ 25,000 per month "Marvin Gardens". I'm working on my "Park Place" ideas and websites that are currently on the figure of 6 per month income range.
Now, start with something like eBay if you need to generate capital for their first web hosting account setup and your first domain name, but we also know that the instruction manual on how to play the game is always available. You may have to learn to read the manual (ie, Google, Internet, Yahoo Answers, etc.). Once you learn to read the manual (get answers from the Internet), you will have little information on how to play, how to avoid costly mistakes and to transfer of distraction and zombie-like click of your mouse while playing alone at the exciting, motivation, experience the highs and lows of the Internet business.
The reality is that only so much time in this life. Why waste that play solitaire? Go there, experience everything I can and get some skin in the game. Ask anyone who has a bet on a game so much more interesting and emotionally attached to this game are that someone who is simply looking at the teams did not play care results in any way …
Quit playing solitaire. I am here to say that "Real Life Monopoly" is much better in every way.
